How do I
create plot files in AutoCAD
?
These instructions will assist
you in creating plot files from AutoCAD (2000 or
higher) that can be sent to Studio Blue for processing. While we
at Studio Blue are happy to help you process
your AutoCAD document, there are
several benefits to you when you create your
own.
1. Price Savings – Studio Blue
charges $5.00 per file to create a plot file.
2. Speed and Accuracy
– You know the fonts, xrefs and line weights
that go with your file. When
you create the plot file all those attributes are saved within your
file. If Studio Blue processes your
AutoCAD file without all this
information, we may plot your file incorrectly or take valuable time
trying to set this information.
Setting up the Plot
Driver
Studio Blue uses the OCE 9800
plotter/copier for the processing of
your plot files. This machine
emulates a HP plotter so standard HP
d
rivers are all that is needed.
1. Make sure AutoCAD is running. At the command
prompt at the bottom of the screen type in CONFIG and
hit enter.
2. This will bring up the OPTIONS window. Under
the PLOTTER tab select “Add a Plotter” and
enter.
3. Select “Add a Plotter” wizard, select next and choose
“My Computer”.
4. Select HP
DesignJet 750C PlusC47088.pc3 and enter.
5. You can import
plotter specific information at this step or
proceed to the next screen.
6.
Choose “Plot to File”, and enter.
7. After answering these
questions you will return to the OPTIONS
window where you will see that the
HP DESIGN JET 750C has been added to the list of available
plotters. Click on OK and return to your
AutoCAD
screen.
How to Create the Plot
File
At the COMMAND prompt type plot (or go to File, Print
or click on the printer icon). This brings up the PRINT PLOT
CONFIGURATION window.
1. Under the PLOT tab choose the HP750C or VIC32 you
have just created.
2. Under PLOT DEVICES choose PLOT TO
FILE. Choose how you will be plotting (i.e. DISPLAY, EXTENTS,
WINDOWS, etc.). Click on File Name and pick the destination
for your plot file (i.e. A:,C:, etc.).
3. Under PAPER SIZE and
ORIENTATION click on the SIZE button and select the paper
size. If you do not see a size that works for you, you can
create a custom paper size in the PROPERTIES area (i.e. 24 x
36).
4. Under the PLOT SETTINGS TAB choose the SCALE, ROTATION,
ORIGIN and your drawing scale.
5. Lastly, we recommend that you
do a full preview. This will show you just how your drawing
will look in the paper size you have selected. Click on the OK
button and your plot file is created.
